what can you do? you see him one day, everything is good. the next day they are gone. what you gonna do? residents in oakland express sadness and frustration after a string of deadly shootings last night leaves four people dead. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. we're learning more details about a deadly four-hour stretch in oakland.

investigators say the latest incident involves two young men shot to death on 72nd avenue near international boulevard, just after 6:00 this morning. lorraine blanco spoke to the family of one of those men. >> reporter: screams filled the scene of a violent scene that ended with two men in the minivan. family members say one of the victims is 23-year-old robert dowell. he lived just a few doors down from the shooting. >> he got a night job. all he do is work and come home. >> reporter: the men were sitting in the vehicle and men on foot, they got into a fight. >> there was some type of

interaction where both victims were shot. >> reporter: veronica lee is heartbroken. she knew both of them. >> they often sit in the car and talk. they were young boys, young men. they don't cause any trouble or anything. they've never r been disrespectful to me or -- never been disrespectful to me or anything else. >> reporter: in the last 24 hours, four people have been killed. >> this is the time for the community to come together and have conversations and working on reducing volunteer. >> reducing -- produce -- reducing violence. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. police say a man and woman were sitting in a car near a liquor store when shots were fired. police say the man died at the scene. the woman was wounded but her

condition is unknown. police say a shooting that left a 14-year-old girl injured is not related to that incident on macarthur boulevard. we're told the girl was grazed in the leg as she was riding in a car on international boulevard. this all happened about 9:00 last night. and then about 10:20 p.m., a man was shot and killed outside another liquor store at macarthur and diamond streets. witnesses say it appears the gunman targeted the victim. the man died at scene. police are looking for those responsible in all of these cases. a candlelight vigil was held this morning in albany for a middle school schoolteacher. was found dead lie -- middle school teacher. he was found dead in his car. allie rasmus is live to let us know how the school is responding. allie? >> reporter: well, they had the

vigil for the popular teacher here who passed away. this afternoon, the memorial that spans this area continues to grow. tears streaming down their faces. children mourn the loss of the teacher. he was found dead in his car. he left a note beside him. investigators say he -- they believe he took his own life, less than a week after being used of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. >> the day will not be business as usual. it will be addressing children's questions, children's grief. >> reporter: on wednesday, the teacher was arrested on suspicion of committing lewd acts with a child. he was not formally charged. but the albany school district placed him on paid leave

pending the investigation. >> we don't know what happened. the police have not finished their investigation. >> so all we can say is that we don't want anyone vilified. >> reporter: while students grief and ask complex questions, district officials describe the difficult balancing act they and their staff have to manage. >> in order to protect students, we have to be incredibly neutral. our middle school staff and our entire district has lost a colleague. a very popular colleague. >> and he had been a teacher here at albany teacher for the past five years. he was also a basketball and volleyball cope. now, the abe -- coach. now, the albany county's coroner has scheduled an autopsy for today. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, allie. temperatures are on the warm side and climbing. lake merritt was a popular

sunshine to enjoy the autumn sunshine. we could see triple digits in about 13 minutes -- digits. in about 13 minutes, rosemary will join us with more on when the temperatures will change. pg&e said a power line fell and that created a power outage and sparked a fire on some shrub us. the flames then spread to a nearby home. the fire was under control in about 45 minutes. delaware street is partly shut down while crews work to repair those lines. pg&e says two customers are without power. there's no estimate when they will get their electricity back on. and coming up in nine minutes, we are also following a house fire in vallejo. the role this hot weather played in the firefight and the life-saving device that helped a father and son escape.

the murder trial of estebon continues today. she's accused of killing michelle le in may of last year. prosecutors say threatening messages though -- show the killing was premedicated. but her attorney says that estebon acted in the heat of passion and should not be charged with first or second- degree murder. le's poddy was found four months after she disappeared. concern is growing for a man who has been missing for two weeks. janine de la vega has more. >> reporter: he suffers from a heart condition. this is the last place he was seen at vine and goodyear streets. he was attending a party in this neighborhood. here's a flier. his name is eric garcia and his loved ones are errorwied because they say -- are worried because they say for him to --

for him to be missing is completely out of character. the family is concerned because he suffers from congestive heart failure and does not have his medication. he was last seen at a party in this downtown neighborhood. he reportedly told friends he would be right back and left on his harley. >> we're hoping that someone saw something, or heard somebody or where he could be. maybe he took a different route, maybe he got into an accident. it doesn't matter what it is, we just want to bring it home. >> reporter: family has created a facebook page about garcia to spread the word about his you disappearance. he works as a satellite installer and rarely misses work. >> i'm just overwhelmed. this is not like my brother. he was supposed to be working and moving out and he needed to have the money to move out. >> reporter: garcia's member says he's a member of the monguls motorcycle club. at this point, police don't

have any evidence that this is linked to the club. >> they are trying to gather up new information and pleads that might help them locate garcia -- and leads that might lead them to locate garcia. he drives a 1985 model harley with the california license plate of 183527. his family has also fired a private investigator to help on this case. the family has also -- is also organizing a candlelight vigil which will be held at 7:00 on women low street street -- willow street. back to you. >> thank you, janine. the tracks have reopened in the central valley late this morning after an amtrak train was pushed off rails. at least 40 people were hurt when a big rig crashed into the train, caution the derailment

a couple of reports tugging u.s. stocks lower. the company's largest fertilizer company has china and india weighing in. san rafael now has the toughest anti-smoking laws in marin county. city leaders approved a ban on smoking in all apartments and condominiums as well as parks, bus stops and many other outdoor spaces. the ordinance includes special restrictions for the downtown area. smoking is also banned while on sidewalks and in plazas except
